The Fruits of Humility
Scripture: Philippians 2:12–2:18
"Now the reason we should put these things away is because one of the best apologetic to a lost world is a joyful and united church.
What is an apologetic? It is a formal defense or justification of something such as a theory or religious doctrine.
Joy is a Christian apologetic.
Listen to Paul…
“…So that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life…”
The whole world grumbles. The whole world fights over stupid things. The whole world is discontent and therefore chases after crooked and perverse things in an attempt to satisfy that which only can be satisfied by God.
And here we are, as representatives of Christ, happy. Full of joy because of Jesus.
That is a light that shines forth in a dark world.
It calls attention to the word of life, that is the gospel, to which we hold fast.
Christians have been freed from sin. They have the promise of help in this life on the way to paradise forever and ever. We should be joyful. It is integral to our testimony before this world.
Putting aside complaining and disputing demonstrates the reality of the gospel in our life… that we are children of God.
Look, the whining and complaining coming from conservatives Christians right now is shameful.
Trump lost. He isn’t going to magically become president again.
Stop going down the weird YouTube rabbit hole.
Yes, there was intense election corruption.
Yes, Joe Biden is terrible.
Yes, Kamala Harris is terrible.
Yes, the equality act is terrible.
Yes, the their policies are wicked and dangerous.
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
It’s all true.
But what are you going to do? Just complain and whine online and label it an “awareness campaign?” We can’t do that. We must “do all things without grumbling or disputing.”
Look, our hope is Jesus. We’ve had our time to mourn over this sham election. Now it time gird up our loins and joyfully get to work. We need shine as lights in this dark time..
We need to get to work. I ask the same thing every time someone goes on about something wrong or terrible in this world of ours:
So what are you going to do about it?"
